Layla Harrison by Daneyka Southwell.
In a new series of blogs where you write a blog about your favourite performer. The next of these blogs comes from Daneyka who writes about her favourite performer Layla Harrison.
When did you first discover your perfomer?
Just through her happening to be on as Meg when I saw Phantom of the Opera, and her blowing me away in the role.
Have you seen them perform live if so in what shows?
Yes, only ever in Phantom but every one of the eight times I have been she has either been a ballet girl or on as Meg.
How would you describe them to your fellow theatre fans?
The kindest, sweetest, most lovely person you will ever meet. She's so genuine and always has time for people, plus she is stupidly talented and the perfect Meg. I always think Meg is one of those parts it's easy to not pay a great deal of attention to, but every little detail Layla brings to that character means you do - she is the reason Meg is one of my favourite characters in the show. If you ever get the chance to see her Megging - DO IT.
Favourite performance?
Have to say Meg as that's the only role I've seen her play, although I do love when she's on as a ballet girl too - she is incredible.
Favourite song you've heard them perform?
Hmm...the thing about Meg is she doesn't have a "big song" so to speak, but Layla sings all of her parts so beautifully - Angel of Music is one of my absolute highlights of the show when she is on as Meg.
Have you met them?
Yes! She has been unbelievably kind to me and I will be forever grateful to her for that. When she does things like come out of stage door especially to see you, it's a special thing and I hope she knows how much that means.
What show would you like to see them in?
I don't know - possibly something more upbeat just because it'd be the complete opposite to Phantom and I think she'd be amazing in something like that. I'd also love to see her in Les Mis too.
