Nathan Amzi by Alison Willman.

In a new series of blogs where you write a blog about your favourite performer. The first of these blogs comes from Alison on her favourite performer Nathan Amzi (me myself being a big Nathan Amzi fan, back from Rocky Horror to now, he's a supremely talented and all round good man).

When did you first discover your performer?

I first discovered Nathan in Rock of Ages in November 2011. He was playing the part of Lonny and he was incredible – he was the reason I saw the show so many times.

Have you seen them perform live if so in what shows?

I’ve been lucky enough to see Nathan perform in Rock of Ages over 30 times and I’ve also seen him sing at After Show and one of Scott Alan’s concerts both at the Hippodrome Casino.

How would you describe them to your fellow theatre fans?

He’s just amazing. He is such a confident, talented and versatile performer but he’s also really kind and generous with his time and always has time for his fans.

Favourite performance?

It’s either when I was lucky enough to see him as Lonny one last time in Manchester, because you could tell he was having so much fun, or when he sang at the Rock of Ages vs Rock of Ages After Show in November. I think the After Show might just edge it because it was just him on the stage as himself and, although I could tell he was nervous, he was incredible. He sang “One for My Baby” by Sinatra but changed it to “One for Rock of Ages” which had me in tears as it wasn’t long after it had been announced that the show was closing. It was so different to the rock songs he usually sings and it was just beautiful.

Favourite song you've heard them perform?

It has to be “Just like Paradise / Nothing but a Good Time” which is the opening medley in Rock of Ages. Whether he was Lonny or Ensemble he stole the stage and it was such an energetic song I always loved to watch it.

Have you met them?

I’ve met him lots of times; in fact he’s probably sick of me by now!

What show would you like to see them in?

I think he’d make a really good Wizard of Oz in Wicked and I’d love to see him in the new School of Rock musical if it ever makes it to the stage. I’d also love to see him back in Rocky Horror as Eddie because I am gutted that I missed it!
